(Fighter)
For thirty-year-old Geir Kåre Nyland, sport was everything. School and relationships always took a backseat to the need for movement and the relentless pursuit of physical limits. But after a spinal injury, he faces a challenge no training could prepare him for: paralysis from the waist down, an ended career as a fighter, and a relationship with his girlfriend cooling dangerously. This sensitively filmed documentary follows his struggle with despair, from the search for miraculous solutions to the gradual reassessment of his own identity. The film by Norwegian directors also explores themes of old trauma, macho culture, and toxic masculinity, asking whether hope and purpose can still be found where everything seems lost.
