(Dear Tomorrow)
In an overpopulated Tokyo, millions of people struggle with deep social isolation, an issue that, in the era of digital chats, robot restaurants, and self-service technology, has ballooned into a national crisis. In response, the government has established a “Ministry of Loneliness.” The film follows a series of individuals searching, within the anonymity of the metropolitan crowd, for the courage to find human connection and a new beginning. A lifeline is offered through a chat service where a team of operators responds daily to thousands of people in crisis. The film’s director explores the contrast between modern alienation and the existential need for belonging. This empathetic portrait shows that the way out of isolation can begin with even the slightest contact—a digital message, shared silence, or an attempt to reconnect with the rest of the world.
