When I Get Jailed

(When I Get Jailed)

Alyona Gribkova faces prison. The reason? A peaceful protest against a police raid during a memorial for the late opposition leader Alexei Navalny

In February 2024, Navalny dies in a penal colony, and hundreds take to the streets across Russia. Among them is a young woman by the name of Alyona, who arrives with a single flower. She refuses to yield to the police, facing arrest, temporary release, and a tense wait for her trial. Over the course of several days, the film juxtaposes her personal story with footage from the streets, revealing the terrifying precision with which the Russian regime bends human rights and keeps its citizens in tight grips of oppression. While her mother urges caution, Alyona confronts the situation with her head held high and asks: “If in Russia you can’t lay flowers, even for the dead, what can you do here?”
