(Desert Passages)
In places where drowning in a powerful current was a real danger just thirty years ago, desert now stretches across the riverbed. Snowfall in the Rocky Mountains, which feeds the river, is steadily declining. Indigenous communities are losing not only access to water, but also a vital connection to the land and a part of their identity. Meanwhile, Las Vegas continues to build extravagant water attractions, and California erects new dams to ensure that wealthy cities never face thirst or boredom. As the climate crisis deepens, access to water becomes a battleground shaped by money, ethnicity, and national borders. This essayistic documentary follows the course of the Colorado River, gathering stories that no longer belong to a distant future. Drought driven by climate change is becoming a defining condition of life for us all.
