The Girl with Brass Rings

(The Girl with Brass Rings)

The women and girls of the Kayan tribe living along the Myanmar-Thai border are known for their extremely long necks. The brass rings adorning them are part of their cultural identity, but outside their village often lead to bullying.

The Kayan worship sacred spirits and have many traditions. Girls receive their first neck ring at the age of 5, and more are added as they grow older. When the protagonist of this short, animated film first leaves her village to attend school in town, she finds that she is not like her classmates: they turn their backs on her, and there are issues because of her different language and religion. Can she stand up for her cultural heritage and fulfil her dream of becoming a teacher?
