A Fox Under a Pink Moon
Millions of Afghan men and women live in Iran without permanent legal status or protection. Sixteen-year-old Soraya suffers domestic abuse as well as the inability to freely decide her own future.
Closed religious communities are seemingly untouched by the war with Russia. Yet, its members decide to join the war effort—but in a way that does not violate their pacifist convictions.
In addition to numerous floods, two world wars have swept through the Dniester River valley in western Ukraine. Here, the Kashetnyk religious community lives in close harmony with nature. Faith and the tending of their farms are the centrepieces of their lives. They reject the achievements of the modern era and do not communicate with the outside world. Until the moment of the Russian invasion. To what extent will a closed community break its own rules in the name of helping a country under attack? The film offers a side of Ukraine that we do not see in the daily news. Sensitively handled cinematography, awarded at the IDFA festival, creates a visual experience based on the rhythm of the seasons, the play of light, and sweeping landscapes.
