The broadcast is interrupted by slick, AI-generated commercials for cosmetics containing microplastics, promising luxury through pollution. As rising sea levels flood the Netherlands, attention turns to its colonial past and to renewed fantasies of conquering Tasmania once again. A swipe-based “dating app” interface references the infamous legacy of Abel Tasman, revealing how land is still imagined as something to be claimed, occupied, and exploited. Shouldn’t we finally stop pretending that a single leader can solve our political and cultural crises?
