Naoki lives alone with his mother. His only friend is a cat, and the story unfolds through the cat’s point of view. But is the cat real? Naoki’s mother believes something is wrong with her son, insisting that the cat has long since died. She decides to have Naoki involuntarily admitted to a treatment facility. Yet will the impersonal approach of the clinic and its insistence on erasing the cat from his mind really help him? The film reflects on the fragility of mental health and the insensitivity of the healthcare system. It emphasizes the importance of understanding and compassion, offering a glimmer of hope for better days that may lie just around the corner. Even invisible cats play a meaningful role, as do unexpected friendships.
