Community Vortex

Children of the Cult

(Children of the Cult)

An investigative film that uncovers the disturbing inner workings of one of the world’s most notorious cults: Rajneesh, founded by the controversial guru Osho, who remains recognized by parts of society to this day.

Originally established in India, the community expanded during the 1970s and 1980s to more than 50 countries worldwide. The cult first entered the public eye through the American series Wild Wild Country, which was criticized from the start for omitting key facts about how the community actually operated. One of the children who grew up in the Rajneesh community serves as the film’s director. In the documentary, she reconnects with other “children of the cult” to paint a complete picture of what life inside Rajneesh was really like, rather than the version the series helped cement as the prevailing narrative. Together, they share their painful experiences and reveal the shocking truth behind the cult’s treatment of women and children.
