A family on Isle de Jean Charles watches as the climate crisis takes away their home. Over the years, we witness farewells, resilience, and life amid the realities of climate-induced displacement.
A film conceived as a love letter to the underwater world, written by a scientific expedition descending into the ocean’s depths. What might emerge from these strange encounters with mesmerizing, neon-colored creatures from the deep blue sea?
Almost no truly uncharted places remain on planet Earth, with one notable exception: the deepest depths of the ocean. There, a lot of remarkable life forms exist whose colors and shapes seem almost extraterrestrial. This visually intoxicating film plunges into a melancholic, almost cosmic landscape, following a research team determined to document as many previously unknown species as possible. Yet the scientists are not the only ones drawing from the dark depths. This underwater universe is also threatened by deep-sea extraction. With wit and tender gravity, the film brings into collision human ambition, capitalism, and scientific curiosity with the fragile existence of beings held fast beneath the surface by the water itself.
