Nuclear Nomads

(Nuclear Nomads)

A glimpse into the world of nuclear power plant workers who move in caravans from plant to plant, all hoping to make enough money before they reach their annual maximum radiation exposure and have to stop working.

Nuclear nomads face fatigue and high doses of radiation, but they are lured by the lucrative pay conditions. Every morning they awaken from dreams of their own garden to a barren landscape of smoking concrete chimneys, through which they travel in their mobile homes. Scenes from a claustrophobic life lived within a few square metres of space alternate with shots of endless vistas of power plants and parking lots. Here, life in a caravan is not synonymous with a romantic retreat from society; instead, it becomes a capitalist cage from which there is no escape. This powerful documentary seeks a balance between personal life, highly dangerous work, and the issue of a sustainable energy future.
