A Muslim man travels to Japan to find his spiritual mentor at a local Buddhist temple and ask him some crucial questions about his life. His pilgrimage is full not only of religious paradoxes, but also of life’s contradictions and humorous situations.
Ahsen Nadeem, the main character and director in one, comes from a deeply religious family in Saudi Arabia. During his adolescence, however, he drifted away from his faith and went his own way. He moved to America and is now in a relationship with a non-Muslim woman, and has been determined for several years to tell his parents about his partner. His double life leads him to a Buddhist monastery in Japan, where he meets an unorthodox monk who loves metal and has a hugely sweet tooth. In addition to the secrets of Buddhist rituals, Nadeem reveals his inner fears about love, freedom, and faith. Is it possible to choose between love and tradition?
