Please Hold The Line

(Please Hold The Line)

A telecommunications study from rural Eastern Europe, where digitalisation, globalisation and even a simple phone line encounter limitations dictated by atypical conditions.

Moldavian director Pavel Cuzuioc tracks the daily work of telecommunication technicians in rural Ukraine, Moldavia, Romania and Bulgaria. Endless disruptions in communication technology lead to more chances for traditional interpersonal relationships. The repairmen become unavoidably involved in many interactions, where the colourful microcosm of local circumstances mixes with the temperament and personal stories of the clients. The frequently amusing scenes of routine repairs evolve into an unobtrusive contemplation of the abundant paradoxes existing in a “global village”, which the film allows to emerge with skilful accuracy.
