Category: Looking for Home

Leading athletes from around the world run in European marathons every year. Many stars from Africa’s poor countries do not race for success and fame – the sport is their only chance for a better life. This captivating documentary tells the story of Kenyan runners as they try to escape poverty by participating in the generously subsidised European races, de facto making them migrant workers. On the path to fulfilling their dreams, they trustingly look to the German manager Volker for help. He hunts out talented runners in bleak African cities, with the aim of using them to earn lots of money for him and his wife. It doesn’t always work out.
