Podcast Vlevo dole Live

Who will be next? What happens when the state runs out of money for culture?

It began with literary magazines, whose funding from the Ministry was “accidentally” cut by 40 per cent. The office later apologised, but a bitter aftertaste remains: was it just a bureaucratic mishap, or the first warning sign that the state is beginning to see the non-profit sector and culture as an unnecessary luxury? What if major film festivals or non-profit organisations doing work the state cannot manage are next in line?

This time, the male half of the podcast Vlevo Dole, Václav Dolejší, will broadcast directly from the heart of the One World festival. In the lounge of Kino Lucerna, he will explore how the political climate in the Czech Republic is changing towards the “non-profit sector” and whether culture is becoming an easy target for budget cuts.

The guest of this special episode is the director of the One World festival, Ondřej Kamenický. Who better to discuss what it is like to negotiate the survival of an internationally renowned event in a country where funding for culture is often searched for at the very bottom of the drawer?

The discussion will be held in Czech.

Attendance at the live podcast recording is only possible with a reservation via GoOut.
