What About Petey?

(Co s Péťou?)

This intimate portrait of the relationship between a father and his son on the autism spectrum captures both the difficulty and the strength inherent in everyday caregiving. At the same time, it exposes the limits of a system that too often relies on the sacrifices of others.

After the death of his wife, Mr. Jochec takes on the care of his two teenage children: his daughter Vanessa and his son Petr, who is on the autism spectrum. Petr will soon turn eighteen and is already physically an adult man. During occasional outbursts of anger, he harms himself and those around him. Despite the growing demands, the father devotes a significant portion of his physical and emotional strength to caring for his son.

This formally refined observational documentary is primarily a tribute to people in caregiving roles. Through a single human story, it also draws attention to the shortcomings of the current social system, which fails to provide sufficient support to people with disabilities and their families.
