The Tale of Silyan

(The Tale of Silyan)

A documentary fairy tale about a farmer who rediscovers life’s joy through an unexpected friendship with a stork.

Set in the agricultural heartland of North Macedonia, one of the largest nesting grounds for white storks, the visually enchanting film weaves myth and reality. With farming in decline and few local opportunities, many families leave for work in Germany, leaving behind mostly older men and abandoned land. One day, farmer Nikola finds an injured stork, Siljan, and takes him in. A tender bond unfolds between two lonely beings, offering friendship, solace in isolation, and a renewed hope for life.
