80 Angry Journalists

(80 rozlícených novinářů)

The Hungarian government succeeded in taking control of one of the country’s most prominent independent media outlets, Index.hu. The journalists fight back with every tool at their disposal, but the system is rigged against them.

In 2020, ownership of Index.hu shifted to figures loyal to Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. Journalists protested, resigned, and attempted to launch a new media platform. Their struggle to defend independent journalism, however, ran up against a complex web of authoritarian control. This investigative documentary uses firsthand accounts from former employees to highlight the importance of media in an age when the value of truth is increasingly questioned. Through its urgency and methodical mapping of the dismantling of independent media, the film demonstrates that this is far from a local issue, it’s a pressing global concern.

What About Petey?

This intimate portrait of the relationship between a father and his son on the autism spectrum captures both the difficulty and the strength inherent in everyday caregiving. At the same time, it exposes the limits of a system that too often relies on the sacrifices of others.
