Tickling Giants awarded at One World in Brussels

The 11th edition of  One World in Brussels took place in Brussels from 24 April till 4 May. A selection of 15 documentaries from One World Prague was screened plus a film called Mustafa portraying the prominent Crimea Tatar politician Mustafa Dzhemilev .

The festival opening was attended by a EU Commissioner Věra Jourová and a Deputy Head of the Czech Permanent Representation to the EU Jaroslav Zajíček.

The festival was closed by a screening of a winning film selected by an international jury. Its members awarded Tickling Giants by Sara Taksler, a documentary portrait of Bassem Youssef, an Egyptian talkshow host who has to flee the country for political reasons. "This film  does more than tickle the imagination; it is a gripping account of  Egypt's political changes and transitions. In the post-Arab Spring period, the viewer is led on a journey that shows Egyptians struggle to embrace democracy and to leave the well-worn path of authoritarianism behind," said the Jury.

Screenings of the 11th edition of One World in Brussels took place at the Czech Representation as well as in the Bozar Centre for Fine Arts, the European Parliament, the Norway House, Cinema Galeries and the Committee of the Regions.(read more)
