A Portrait On The Search For Happiness

(A Portrait on the Search for Happiness)

A pictorial poem about seekers of precious stones from the South African west coast and how their obsession leaves irreversible scars on the landscape.

Life returns to former diamond mines in an arid landscape between the ocean and the desert. Large companies have already mined this land, but from time to time someone finds a fabulously large diamond here. And so several men work day after day, and sometimes in the dust and stones one of them actually finds a small gem that allows him to relax, eat or visit his family for a while. This compassionate film accompanies the main characters on their difficult journey full of exhausting work and uncertainty. Wealth is within reach, but at the same time far away. And even the largest gem will not save its finder from the transience of life.
