Garage People

(Garage People)

Viktor enter his garage. He goes down one level. Then another. And one more. He has dug them all himself. Why? He doesn’t know. But here, in these garages, everyone makes their own world. Next door, Pavel carves icons. Sergei is always tinkering in his even though he has Parkinson’s disease. Ilja L. writes poetry and is forming a band, while Ilja K. dreams about how the money he earns from scrap metal will buy him an Audi and new teeth. Although shot from the perspective of an uninvolved observer, this film about “weekenders” in an unusual garage colony captures the full spectrum of the Russian soul, from smiling earthiness to mournful contemplation.
