When Tomatoes Met Wagner
(When Tomatoes Met Wagner)
Elias, a small forgotten village in Greece, is slowly dying out. Cousins Aleco and Christos come up with a plan to save it, one that is full of sun, juicy tomatoes and Wagner.
How is it possible to return life to a farming region where only a handful of residents are left? Under the direction of the film's two main characters, all the remaining residents try to revive the cultivation of the local tomato variety without fertilisers and pesticides. In a small local factory some of them pack, strain and preserve tomatoes for export. Others deploy giant loudspeakers in the field, playing classical music that, according to the quirky growers, create conditions conducive to growth. The film humorously presents the efforts of a small village to preserve a tradition that is based less on modern agriculture and more on mutual solidarity.
