Where Chaos Reigns
(Where Chaos Reigns)
Medic Daniella and others established and manage the Green Cross volunteer organisation in Venezuela, which unites doctors and medical students who did not hesitate to go into the streets to help the wounded during the massive 2017 protests.
Venezuela’s experiment with “the socialism of the 21st century” led to an economic and political crisis. In 2017, civil protests broke out in response to the total breakdown in national policies, the enormous inflation rate, and the rationing of basic goods. Nonetheless, the regime is fiercely holding on to power. Over 100 people have been killed and others badly wounded in the brutal clashes with police and national armed forces. “I stopped protecting my own life to protect others,” reminisces Daniella about treating the wounded. Despite all the risks, the lack of drugs and foods, she remains in her crisis-afflicted country to help.
