This competition category presents fundamental cases of human rights violations and gives space to strong activists from around the world. This year's selection was dominated by stories in which female heroines have a strong position – more than a third of the films revolve around an unshakable female social worker, judge, journalist or activist. Regionally diverse selections present stories and portraits from the Middle East, Afghanistan, Russia or Africa.
