Mayor of the City of Prague

Human rights are an incredibly important issue all over the world today. On the one hand, people in Europe have the most rights they have had in history, but on the other hand, we are still learning how to best approach them. I personally think that it is essential to draw attention to human rights, which we have fought for, in order to encourage mutual tolerance in our society. This would help not only in our immediate surroundings, but will also contribute to a better understanding between people with different opinions.
Prague is undoubtedly a multicultural city where people from all over the world come together, which is why I am happy that I am able to endorse the One World festival. It is one of the biggest human rights film festivals in the world and one of the most important cultural events in Prague and the whole of the Czech Republic. I would also like to thank People in Need for organizing this festival for all these years and wish One World a good start of its third decade.

Tomáš Petříček

Foreign Affairs Minister

Social “bubbles” and divisions in society along many different lines are significant phenomena in today’s world, which lie behind a number of open and hidden conflicts around the world. Films help us fight against stereotyping and overcome the barriers that are built between people. This is why the Czech Foreign Affairs Ministry supports human rights film festivals across the world every year. One World festival is an important inspiration for all of them, and often helps with the establishment and professionalization of festivals elsewhere.
The goal of diplomacy is to prevent conflicts and find common ground between different opinions. The Czech Foreign Affairs Ministry supports civil society, independent media and human rights advocates all over the world, all of which play a key role in the search for common solutions and opens important debates that seek to solve social inequality and other burning topics. Thirty years ago, our country experienced the Velvet Revolution, and as the Foreign Affairs minister I embrace the values that it embodied, including an emphasis on human rights, equal opportunities and the important role of civil society. I try to actively base my work on these values.
I therefore feel that endorsing the festival is an obvious decision and I greatly value our partnership with One World.

Antonín Staněk

Culture Minister

Dear guests of the festival,
I am very happy that I can pass on my greetings to you, on the occasion of the opening of the 21st annual International Festival One World, which is once again taking place under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture.
With its openness and choice of topics, the human rights-focused documentary film festival shows and identifies the most pressing problems in today’s world, which I consider to be very important.
I am certain that each one of you will be able to choose a film that interests you from the rich festival program.

Antonín Staněk - Ministr kultury
