One World in Brussels - Jury
Members of the One World in Brussels Jury, representatives of various human rights organizations, are selecting the best film from the festival competition. In 2018, the winning documentary was Golden Dawn Girls by director Håvard Bustnes. This year’s jury members are:
Adam Shapiro works as Head of Communications & Visibility for the Irish international human rights organisation Front Line Defenders. In his role he is responsible for campaigning with and for human rights defenders around the world. Prior to his position at Front Line Defenders, Adam worked as an independent documentary filmmaker. He has made a number of full-length and short documentary films, which have appeared at film festivals around the world and on broadcast TV. Adam has filmed human rights documentaries in Darfur, Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Europe and the United States.
As the Director of Fair Trials’ Campaigns & Networks, Alex is responsible for core communications as well as for initiating and developing relationships with partner organisations and existing networks to improve effective collaboration on campaigns. Before joining Fair Trials, Alex worked for the Azerbaijan Migration Center in Baku, and for a busy legal practice in North London.
Elena Crespi is heading the Western Europe Programme at FIDH (International Federation for Human Rights), focusing on human rights protection and promotion in Europe. She previously worked as an advocate and legal officer at Amnesty International's EU office, within the legal department of Italy's Permanent Representation to the EU. Among her areas of expertise are issues related to the rule of law and shrinking civic space, migration and asylum, economic, social and cultural rights and criminal justice.
