From Columbus, Ohio, to Guerrero, Mexico. Nothing can stop it. The drug epidemic ravages lives and communities on both sides of the border.
There are specific human stories hidden behind dry numbers and statistics and behind screaming headlines about the drug trade and addiction. On the one side are addicts and their families, who must often come to terms with the loss of their loved ones. On the other are those who produce and distribute drugs. Somewhere between the two is the police. The multilayered issue of drugs can be understood only when the individual fragments are combined into an overall picture. Our festival is screening 2 episodes – traveling to a poppy field in Mexico and a treatment center in the USA – from a docuseries made by the same director whose Cartel Land (on the same topic) was nominated for an Oscar and received 3 Emmy awards in 2016.
