“We hunt elephants, the park rangers hunt us.” This adventurous docu-thriller from the Kenyan bush looks at ivory trading through the eyes of both poachers and wildlife rangers.

Kenya’s campaign against ivory smugglers has peaked. On one side, we find the local middleman, X, and the hunter Lucas, whose sole means of subsistence in northern Kenya is poaching. Opposing them is X’s cousin, Asan, one of the wildlife rangers who, although the state had armed them in the battle against poachers, have not received their salary for months. None of them knows how to support their family in this situation, and their paths cross more often. Emmy-winning director Jon Kasbe spent over 3 years with the protagonists to make a film providing a detailed view of the lives of people who must choose between morality and an empty stomach.
