Over the past six years, the One World film festival has gradually expanded throughout the Czech Republic, and now takes place in fourteen cities in addition to Prague. The festival has become one of the few cultural events in the Czech Republic that focuses its attention almost evenly between the capital city and the regional centers. One World has established itself in larger cities like Brno, Ostrava, and Plzen, as well as in smaller local centers like Kutna Hora, Roznov pod Radhostem and Uherske Hradiste. In each of these places, the festival has found its own specific niche alongside the other cultural events of the region. | | |
Cooperation with local non-profit organizations is key to the success of One World in the regions, as local partners take full responsibility for organizing events in participating cities. One World effectively combines the potential of the prestigious international film festival taking place in Prague with local citizen initiatives that are active in each regional partner city. In addition to the participation of non-governmental, non-profit organizations, an essential component of One World in the regions is cooperation with universities and a large number of secondary schools, vocational schools and elementary schools. The program in each city is further supplemented by a number of accompanying events, debates, exhibitions and musical performances.
An important prerequisite to the success of the festival in the areas outside of Prague is the continuously growing support from local government and regional authorities. The festival is held under the auspices of the mayor and regional governor in each of the cities where the festival takes place.
