Mirroring The film was a revelation of its time.
To make a film about the soul is a bold endeavour even today, never mind at a time when strong ideological control shaped cinematography.
Evald Schorm and Jan Špáta reached new levels of creativity with this film.
The film is as powerful a viewing experience today as it was at the time of its creation. Its questions are still applicable and current today.
Merciless Time The end of the 1970s in the Czechoslovakia was a depressing time of general atrophy. Věra Chytilová's film was like a thunderbolt from the clear skies. She managed to show off her cinematic virtuosity on a common and unattractive topic. She did not give up or hide behind the general apathy of the era, but instead managed to provoke and rouse her fellow filmmakers. It is possible to achieve what you want only if you put in sufficient effort and courage.
Hitler, Stalin and I
I have been trying to pin down the interesting fates of the twentieth century for a long time. Heda Margoliová fascinated me for some time with her story-telling capabilities and stand in life. To encounter such a figure personally is a great experience for a documentary filmmaker.
The Beauty Exchange Erika Hníková is one of my students at FAMU. For me she represents a new generation of documentary filmmakers who fulfil the motto of the Jihlava Film Festival "Thinking through film!".
Her film is thoughtful, tendentious and passionate.
Erika is brave, does not give up, and searches. We look forward to her future film creations.
