Public Service Announcements

TV spots on human rights and social issues
Public Service Announcements can, like documentary films, effectively bring complicated cultural and political issues to the forefront. It is exactly for this reason that One World is again including short non-commercial spots in its screening program. This year One World has decided to turn its attention to the position of public service announcements in the Czech Republic. What attention do they receive within the media? What is the relationship between advertising agencies and the creation of TV spots on human rights and social issues? Do public service announcements have any impact on Czech society?

A discussion of these as well as other topics, with an accompanying screening of Czech and foreign public service announcements, will take place on the 20th April at 7.30 pm at the Institut Français in Prague. The evening will be hosted by the editor of the magazine "Strategie", Jan Kučmáš.

The screenings and discussion are being prepared in cooperation with The Association of Communication Agencies, Monarch Film Agency, the magazine Strategie and Screen Vision.

The selection and screening of the ads was made possible with the kind support of the Cannes Lions festival, Epica, Clio, Golden Drum, Louskáček. Additional support was given by Amnesty International, D&AD Agency, Leo Burnett, OXFAM, MTV, Screen Vision, Save the Children and others.
