The One World in Prisons project will continue in 2004. In conjunction with the main festival, select documentaries will be shown at the following correctional institutes: the Prague central detention center, the Ruzyne women's detention center, and women's prisons in Svetla nad Sazavou and Kurim. The 2004 project is a continuation of the work of the previous year, during which One World cooperated with 20 prisons in the Czech Republic in order to screen films and organize debates with the inmates. The following selected topics have been selected in consultation with prison authorities and are relevant to the prison experience: gang subculture, harassment, drug addiction, domestic violence, prostitution, racism, and homosexuality. The screenings help inmates reflect on their personal situations, and also allow the inmates to learn about the fates of people with similar problems. Screenings in prisons have been warmly welcomed by inmates, in part because they offer a break from the monotony of life behind bars.
