Jan Šibík - The year 2003

Each year, as part of the One World festival, People in Need organizes a photo exhibition by a renowned photographer working to document human rights issues. In past years, exhibitions focused on geographic areas where People in Need is actively working. This year, One World highlights the work of acclaimed Czech photojournalist Jan Šibík with an exhibition of 40 recent color photographs from seven countries. What links these photographs together is Šibík's keen observation of the problems of the lack of freedom, war, dictatorship, and extreme poverty around the world. Especially poignant are his series of photographs of child soldiers in Liberia. Other photos presented include those taken by Jan Šibík during the last year in Iraq, Iran, India, Palestine, Georgia, and Ukraine.
The new documentary about Jan Šibík, „The Devil inside Us!“ will be shown in the audio center of the National Library during the opening day of the exhibition and throughout the exhibition. The author of this documentary is Czech television reporter Marek Vítek.
The works of Jan Šibík will also be exhibited in Plzeň during the One World film festival.

Every person has the right to live a dignified and worthwhile life. However, for half of humanity this remains an unobtainable dream.
This is an exhibition of determined communities and individuals struggling to find answers and solutions with the assistance of local and overseas organizations.
The exhibition was created as part of the program, "Raising Czech Public Awareness in the Field of Overseas Development Aid."
The exhibition is connected thematically to the festival category "Facing Global South" in which the following films will be screened:
