TV spots on human rights and social issues
World poverty and humanitarian aid – Racism – Domestic violence – Right to information – Child abuse – Minority rights – Disabled people – Political prisoners – Ecology – No Smoking – HIV – Freedom of the press – Child labor – Cruelty to animals – Rain forests – Arms trafficking – Road safety – Globalization – Homeless people – Land mines…

Not only documentaries, but also short TV spots – public service announcements – can focus attention on the problems of our age. At One World this year, 10-minute blocs of awareness building TV spots covering a wide range of human rights and social issues will be shown before each screening.

The whole series will be presented at the Ponrepo Cinema in Prague at 6:00 pm, April 14, 2003. The selected program includes some of the most successful PSAs at recent international festivals, and the screening of the whole set will last 45 minutes. The presentation will be followed by a discussion attended by Juraj Apiha, director of the Golden Drums festival.

The selection and screening of these PSAs would not be possible without the generous support of directors of the Cannes Lions and Golden Drums festivals, Epica, Louskacek, D&D Agency, and OXFAM. We would also like to thank the Monarch Film agency in Slovakia, Strategie magazine, the AKA, the Art Directors Club, and the Aspect association for their help in acquiring the PSAs. We are also grateful to the Monarch Film Agency, Strategie, and the AKA for their financial contributions and help in organizing the discussion.

Selected PSAs include:

Fair Trade Campaign, OXFAM:
Six PSAs (The Poorest Woman on Earth, A Two-Dollar Cappuccino, Quite Valueless, When You Don’t Have Means to Live, Marianna is Sick, Sofia Lives in Port-Au-Prince) focusing on the inequalities caused by the current world trade system.
Length: 15 minutes
