The Best Director Award
Andrei Osipov created a masterpiece, a very precise link between today and the past. The film includes very real footage from WW II, WW I, and the Russo-Japanese War. Even people who fought on the Russian side against Turkey in the middle of the 19th century are shown in this film. It is a confessional type of film which shows that Russia and the Soviet Union caused large-scale violence and civil wars. It is important and nice that a Russian film director brought such a beautiful confession to our screen. (Mark Soosaar, a jury member) |
