| Crossroads Hillie Molenaar and Joop van Wijk | The Netherlands | 1997 | 60 min | Documentary | Colour | Betacam At an intersection of roads from Uganda to Tanzania and from Kenya via Rwanda to Zaire, some half a million refugees from Tutsi-Hutu violence streamed in to create a boom town called Benaco. The Dead Are Alive Els de Temmerman proved that the tragedy in Rwanda was not a spontaneous outburst of collective violence but a meticulously prepared and premeditated mass slaughter. Delta Force Delta Force examines the military campaign of terror waged by the Nigerian government against the Ogoni people in order to restore oil production on their lands. Devil's Children Thousands of Rwandese women were raped during the genocide of 1994, and speak of their ordeal for the first and perhaps only time. The Draughtsmen Clash This wicked political satire could easily apply to any number of dictators but points to the former president of Zaire, Mobutu Seso Seko. The Forgotten The filmmaker explores conditions in Angola, a country ravaged by war for 30 years. The documentary acquaints viewers with the country's "forgotten people" -- people victimized by violence and poverty, child soldiers and vagrant children, but also with women who develop initiatives to improve their own situation and that of others. Gerrie and Louise The film is a true story of politically star-crossed lovers during the twilight of apartheid. Gerrie is a colonel in the South African Defense Force, and Louise a top South African investigative journalist dedicated to exposing its brutalities. Warrior Marks A documentary featuring the American writer Alice Walker, who searches for the cultural and historical roots of female circumcision. What About Your Pain, Africa? Beautiful, moving, revealing, and above all sincere cinematographic diary about Africa. |
