One World in Brussels: 14–23 May 2012

PROGRAMME AND TICKETS

For the sixth year, the One World International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival also will be held in Brussels.

From 14 to 23 May 2012, the festival will offer nearly two dozen new documentary films and panel discussions with politicians, human rights activists and/or international NGO leaders.

The festival’s graphics – along with the motto Youth Quake – draw attention to movements and protests of young people in different parts of the world expressing dissatisfaction with the establishment. This is not solely happening in the Arab world; it also is taking place in many countries with a long history of democracy.

One World in Brussels is organised by the Czech humanitarian organisation People in Need in co-operation with the film festivals Movies that Matter (The Hague) and Festival Des Libertes (Brussels), the Permanent Representation of the Czech Republic to the European Union, the Czech Centre in Brussels, member organisations united in the Human Rights and Democracy Network and the Brussels-based United Nations Regional Information Centre (UNRIC).

The festival is held under the auspices of Martin Schulz, the President of the European Parliament and Ambassador Milena Vicenová, Permanent Representative of the Czech Republic to the European Union.

The One World Brussels Jury is responsible for selecting the winning film from 9 documentaries in competition. This year’s jury comprises of the following members: Victoria Pirker, Human Rights Without Frontiers; David Nichols, Amnesty International; Yin Myo , Women's Rights Activist from Burma.

The screenings will take place on the premises of European Parliament, Bozar Centre for Fine Arts, Goethe Institute, and the Permanent Representation of the Czech Republic to the European Union.

All the screenings (except in Bozar) are FREE of charge. However, tickets must be ordered in advance at www.czechrep.be/oneworld.
