The Bristol Bike Project
The Bristol Bike Project
Alistair Oldham / UK / 2009 / 18 min.
Around 400 people are registered as asylum seekers in the English city of Bristol. The 25 pounds they get a week from the British government just covers basic foods, but taking public transport is out of the question and they have no choice but to go everywhere on foot. Until, that is, a project is initiated by locals to provide them with old and abandoned bicycles found in the city. Those who cannot legally work are offered the opportunity to spend their time constructively repairing bicycles - and to possess their own bike.
